Vabam (va-bam), officially called Vebim until 1986 is the national capital of Yurka and the seat of Faūijč, partly located in Nixenpa and 30 municipalities (with 2 of them in Nixenpa) whose seats are all part of Vabam, with the majority of the city being forested. It was founded by Vebim II on August 28, 1744, who named the city after himself. It is the largest human settlement on Ysey and is also the seat of the Yurkish Commonwealth.

Etymology[]

Vabam is a different spelling of Vebim (both names have been historically used at least since the 17th-18th century).

The origin of "Vebim" comes from Kazácuhalmi ve bím "freer" and ve bìm "freedom". Vebim II, the city's founder, took his name from the two Kazácuhalmi words.

ve "free/rural" is another word for yür "rural", referring to the land being almost free (void, empty) of urbanization and only consisting of nature. The inhabitants of this area were referred to as ve bím (literally rural resident), bím meaning "resident". bìm is equivalent to "-dom" in English.

Mayors[]

Vabam has had mayors from 1744 to 2018, and again from 2023.

Prior to 2018, in Yurkish Swedish the mayor of Vabam was referred to as a styrningsman (according to an old Yurkish English dictionary: "A person who has received the rights to "control" a city.").
