Vabam (va-bam) (primary native name until 1986 Vebim) is the capital and largest city of Yurka and the seat of City of Vabam, partly located in Federation of Èyqûjé whose seat is actually part of Vabam. It was founded by Vebim II on August 28, 1744. It is the largest human settlement on Falseous.

On February 20, 2019 the closest surrounding settlements (all in the city proper and some outside it) merged with the city but legally retain their status. Rntiy and Yniz followed along on July 1, 2019 and more settlements may merge with Vabam in the future.

Etymology[redigera | redigera wikitext]

Vabam is a different spelling of Vebim (both names have been historically used at least since the 17th-18th century).

The origin of "Vebim" comes from Kazácuhalmi ve bím "freer" (reflected in an alternate Japanese name: フリーア Furīa) and ve bìm "freedom". Vebim II, the city's founder, took his name from the two Kazácuhalmi words.

ve "free/rural" is another word for yür "rural", referring to the land being almost free (void, empty) of urbanization and only consisting of nature. The inhabitants of this area were referred to as ve bím (literally rural resident), bím meaning "resident". bìm is equivalent to "-dom" in English.

Mayors[redigera | redigera wikitext]

A Yurkish Swedish word for this position is styrningsman (according to an old Yurkish English dictionary: "A person who has received the rights to "control" a city.").

As of April 20, 2018 Vabam no longer officially has a mayor, the region governor took the role instead.
