A grand parish (Swedish: socken, Yurkish: vynchartè) is a division of Yurka. As of January 1, 2024 there are 494 grand parishes in total; counted are grand parishes no longer part of Yurka (but still part of the Yurkish Commonwealth). All municipalities are required to have at least two grand parishes. As a result, if a municipality is to be formed in an area with only one grand parish or with unusual borders, a second grand parish will be established.
As a grand parish is intended to tell the history about the area, it can't be dissolved once established as this may create problems in the future. Should a merger occur anyway, the grand parish will be considered transitional (in other words it still exists but isn't regarded as one).
Evolution[]
